How to Heal from Childhood Trauma as a Christian Woman (Yes, It’s Really Possible)

golden_hour_headshot_v2

If you’ve carried pain from your childhood into your adult life — the anxiety that creeps in for no apparent reason, the reactions you can’t quite explain, the relationships that seem to follow the same painful patterns — I want you to hear this:

You are not broken. You are not at fault. And healing is absolutely possible.

I know because I’ve lived it. And I’ve walked dozens of women through it.

Your Brain Wired Itself Before You Even Knew How to Write Your Name

One of the most powerful things I share with every client I work with is this: the way your brain responds to the world today was largely shaped before you had any say in the matter.

When something difficult happened in your childhood — whether it was a moment of fear, rejection, loss, or confusion — your brain did exactly what it was designed to do. It wired itself to protect you. It created patterns to help you survive.

The problem is, those survival patterns don’t just disappear when you grow up. They follow you into your relationships, your parenting, your work, your faith. And for years — sometimes decades — they quietly run the show.

This is where I always begin with a new client. I simply listen. Not to diagnose or fix, but to understand. Because when someone tells their story, I can hear exactly how their brain learned to navigate the world. And from there, we can gently trace it back — to the moment, the season, the wound that started it all.

Faith-Based Healing for Christian Women: What It Actually Looks Like

There’s a misconception that healing from trauma means years of painful digging — reliving every hard memory, reopening every wound.

That has not been my experience. Not in my own life, and not in the lives of the women I work with.

God can work miracles in a split second. I have seen it happen over and over again.

Faith-based healing for Christian women isn’t about white-knuckling your way through your past. It’s about allowing God into the places you’ve kept hidden — and discovering that He was already there, waiting.

It’s also about understanding the science He built into you. Neuroplasticity — the brain’s ability to change and rewire — is one of the most extraordinary things I’ve ever learned. Your brain is not fixed. You are not stuck. The patterns that formed in childhood can be transformed. That’s not just a therapeutic concept. That’s a reflection of the God who says “Behold, I make all things new.”

My Own Story

I didn’t come to this work by accident — or rather, I did, but God was behind every step of it.

It started with a women’s Bible study that introduced me to neuroplasticity for the first time. I had spent years believing that the life I had was simply the bed I had made. I didn’t know I could choose to rewire my brain. That one truth changed everything.

Then came a Thanksgiving weekend in the mountains. A family member triggered me deeply — I stepped outside to cool down, convinced I was the one being wronged. The following Monday, a friend in my study asked one simple question: “Isn’t that the person who just got that difficult medical diagnosis?”

I sat there like I’d been hit upside the head.

I had been so focused on feeling unappreciated that it never crossed my mind that my family member was probably very concerned and scared. That night, God gave me two choices: stay in my brokenness and keep living the same painful patterns on repeat — or trust Him and allow real transformation to begin.

I chose option two. Years of shame fell away. True healing began — and it continues every single day I allow it.

You Can Choose to Change Your Mind

Whatever happened to you as a child — whatever your brain learned in order to survive — it does not have to be your forever story.

You can choose differently. You can allow God to rewrite the narrative. And you don’t have to do it alone.

That’s what I do with my clients. We don’t just talk about what happened. We understand why it happened in the brain, we bring it before God, and we begin to build new patterns — ones rooted in truth, healing, and freedom.

If you’re a Christian woman who has carried childhood wounds longer than you should have to, I’d love to talk. Healing is closer than you think.
